Day of protection of cultural monuments

From Croatia 20.2.2023.

Cultural monuments are tangible evidence of human existence, development and history, the preservation of which is in the public interest. Each country is recognizable by a distinctive monument, regardless of whether it belongs to a building, a movable monument, an excavation or an ensemble (a total area consisting of several segments, for example a building, a park and the free space that surrounds it).

One of the few preserved buildings of this kind in the world, which is also an authentic representation of ancient architecture, is the Arena in Pula, or Amphitheater, known to all of us. Croatia also has buildings that are on the UNESCO World Heritage List: the Old Town of Dubrovnik, the Euphrasian Basilica in Poreč, the Cathedral of St. Jakov in Šibenik, Diocletian's Palace in Split, the Roman City of Trogir and the Old Town on the island of Hvar.
