Let's turn to nature, turn off the lights! Darkness for an hour is not a big deal...

Earth Hour was launched in Sydney in 2007 as a civic initiative to protest climate change and call for urgent action. At one o'clock on the last Saturday in March, millions of people around the world turn off the lights to express a symbolic act of support for the Earth. The clock for planet Earth has grown at a tremendous rate and today is the world’s largest civic environmental initiative. Together on all seven continents we speak on behalf of wild species and forests, rivers and oceans. We gather in the key actions needed to curb climate change and protect life as we know it.

In the Guinness Book of World Records, the movement is listed as the world's largest volunteer action, and the results are getting better every year. The countries of our region joined this initiative in 2009. Zagreb was the first city to get involved, followed by Belgrade and Podgorica in 2010. Since then, WWF and partners have organized Earth Hour in more than 150 cities.

JOIN THE PLANET FOR ONE HOUR IN 2022.

This year, as part of the Earth Hour, we remind you that we still have a chance to mitigate climate change and save nature, and thus ourselves, from everyday extinction. Greta Thunberg, a climate and environmental activist, also joined the initiative, saying that for her, the Earth Hour is every hour every day. We have to take care of each other, but also of the planet we share - Thunberg pointed out. The hour for planet Earth is known for the symbolic act of turning off the lights at 8:30 p.m. WWF invites all citizens to take part in the action. Turning off the lights is a symbolic gesture, but it gives us a chance to remind ourselves how often we behave irresponsibly towards the Earth. That is why today we must remind ourselves how important it is to separate waste and recycle, try to buy in bulk, avoid plastic bags and other disposable plastics in general. It is also important to turn off lights and all devices that draw energy when we do not need it, do the same thing with water. Change starts with us, so let’s all turn off the lights together tonight from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm and continue to remind ourselves how important it is to protect the Earth.
