On this day in 1880, around 7 a.m. Zagreb was hit by a strong earthquake having intensity of 8 degrees (Mercalli scale) and 6.3 degrees (Richter scale), and the epicentre was in the Medvednica area. Numerous Zagreb buildings were demolished, and the damage could be compared to half of the then state budget!
