World Water Day

From ecology 22.3.2024.

March 22 marks World Water Day. That day points the importance of drinking water and sustainable water resources management. The celebration of World Water Day was proposed at the United Nations Conference for Environment and Development in Brazil in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro. The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution and the first World Water Day was marked in 1993. Since then, every year, UN-Water, the body that coordinates the UN's work in the field of water supply and sanitation, has determined the theme of World Water Day in response to a current or future challenge. World Water Day focuses on the importance of water and raising awareness of the 2.2 billion people who do not have access to safe water. It is about taking action to address the global water crisis, and the main focus is to support the goal of sustainable water and sanitation development by 2030.
